Iron helps your body produce new red blood cells, which carry oxygen all over your body. When you’re iron deficient, your body will produce red blood cells at a slower rate. This lack of oxygen throughout the body can cause a condition called anemia.

Many people don’t show signs of iron deficiency until they reach the point of anemia. These symptoms may include things like dizziness, fatigue, headaches, and feeling cold. A blood test can help confirm the diagnosis.
