There are many allergy medications to choose from. Antihistamines, such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Claritin (loratadine), are a popular choice because they start working fast and can help prevent symptoms if taken daily. Nasal steroids, such as Flonase (fluticasone propionate), are a first choice for allergy prevention. But they can take up to 2 weeks to start working. Nasal decongestants, such as Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) and Afrin (oxymetazoline), work fast but shouldn’t be used long term due to their side effects. Mast cell stabilizers, such as NasalCrom (cromolyn sodium), typically aren’t a first choice as they’re less effective and can take several weeks to start working. With so many options, we’ve prepared this fast and fun allergy medications quiz to test your expertise.
