Benzoyl peroxide helps kill the bacteria that cause acne, and while it is very effective, it can come with some side effects. Redness, soreness, dryness, and peeling are something you might experience, especially if you don’t use it as directed.

To get the most out of benzoyl peroxide, start slow and small to avoid skin irritation. Be patient, since it can take around 4 weeks to start seeing some results.
