Carbamoyl Phosphate Synthetase 1 (CPS 1) activators are used to treat excess levels of ammonia in the blood (hyperammonemia). They act as a replacement for an enzyme that converts ammonia into urea so it can be safely eliminated from the body.
Carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS 1) is used to treat hyperammonemia caused by N-acetylglutamate synthase (NAGS) deficiency. It works by enhancing the activity of CPS-1, an enzyme that helps remove excess ammonia from your body. An example of a CPS-1 activator is carglumic acid (Carbaglu).
CARGLUMIC ACID treats urea cycle disorders (UCDs). It works by helping your body decrease the amount of ammonia in your blood. This lowers the risk of serious health problems. It is not a cure.
