Bimzelx (bimekizumab-bkzx) is a biologic medication used to treat many health conditions, including hidradenitis suppurativa and psoriatic arthritis. It’s a monoclonal antibody that helps reduce inflammation and swelling by blocking the protein interleukin-17 (IL-17).
Your first Bimzelx injection will likely be administered in your prescriber’s office. After that, you can self-inject at home using a prefilled autoinjector or syringe. Most people administer between 160 mg to 320 mg of Bimzelx every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the condition they are being treated for. Some conditions require more frequent doses during the first 16 weeks (4 months) of treatment.
There isn’t a biosimilar available for Bimzelx, which is generally dispensed through specialty pharmacies. Out-of-pocket costs for the medication can reach several thousand dollars per month, depending on many factors. But you may be able to reduce your costs with a GoodRx discount or one of the manufacturer’s financial assistance programs.
How much does Bimzelx cost?
The manufacturer’s list price for a 1 mL autoinjector or syringe of Bimzelx is around $7,923 as of January 2025. But the pharmacy you choose, its wholesale supplier, and other factors determine what you actually pay.
Without insurance or discounts, a carton containing 1 autoinjector of Bimzelx 160 mg/mL costs an average of $10796.19. The average price for a carton containing 1 autoinjector of 320 mg/2 mL is $20299.81.
Below are the average retail prices for other quantities, forms, and doses of Bimzelx.
Bimzelx quantity and form | Dose | Average retail price |
|---|---|---|
1 prefilled syringe (1 carton) | 160 mg/mL | |
2 prefilled syringes (1 carton) | 160 mg/mL | |
2 autoinjectors (1 carton) | 160 mg/mL | |
1 prefilled syringe (1 carton) | 320 mg/2 mL |
What factors affect the cost of Bimzelx?
Factors that can affect your out-of-pocket costs for Bimzelx include:
Pharmacy: Prices for the medication may vary among specialty pharmacies because of negotiated rates and other factors.
Where you live: Your location affects your prescription costs. GoodRx research shows that people in Houston, Texas, for example, often pay less for prescription medications than those in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Insurance: Whether or not you have insurance is a major factor in how much you pay for Bimzelx. But even if you have an insurance plan that covers the medication, you may still have to pay a deductible, copay, or coinsurance.
Dosage: Depending on your condition, you may need more frequent doses during the first 16 weeks of treatment. If you’re receiving Bimzelx to treat plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, your dosage after the first 4 months may be based on body weight. All of this can affect your costs.
Discounts: You may be able to lower the cost of Bimzelx with a GoodRx discount or one of the manufacturer’s financial assistance programs.
Does insurance cover Bimzelx?
Bimzelx coverage varies widely by insurance type, regardless of whether it comes in an autoinjector or a syringe. Commercial plans cover Bimzelx for almost 9 in 10 enrollees, and nearly all Medicaid enrollees have coverage. But only about one-third of Medicare beneficiaries — and around 6 out of 10 people with Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace plans — have coverage for Bimzelx.
Prior authorization (advance approval for coverage) is required for most people enrolled in ACA, commercial, and Medicaid plans. Step therapy (trying other, usually lower-cost options first) is common across all plan types.
To understand your specific coverage details and costs, check your health plan’s list of covered medications, known as a formulary, or contact your insurer directly.

Here are some steps you can take if Bimzelx isn’t covered by your plan or if your out-of-pocket costs are too high:
Apply for financial assistance through one of the programs offered by UCB, the manufacturer of Bimzelx. (See below for more information.)
Ask your prescriber about other, similar medications that may be covered by your plan and could have lower out-of-pocket costs.
Request a formulary exception to get Bimzelx covered by your plan. This will likely require you to submit a letter of medical necessity and supporting documentation from your prescriber explaining why this medication is needed.
File an appeal if your insurer denies the formulary exception request.
Compare health plans during open enrollment, and consider switching to one that covers the medications you need.
Ways to save on Bimzelx
Bimzelx can cost several thousand dollars per month without insurance coverage. But these seven tips could help lower what you pay for Bimzelx.
1. Save with a GoodRx discount
A free GoodRx discount could help lower the cost of your Bimzelx prescription. Here’s what you might pay for different quantities, doses, and forms of the medication at certain pharmacies.
Bimzelx quantity and form | Dose | GoodRx price (as low as) |
|---|---|---|
1 prefilled syringe (1 carton) | 160 mg/mL | |
2 prefilled syringes (1 carton) | 160 mg/mL | |
1 autoinjector (1 carton) | 160 mg/mL | |
2 autoinjectors (1 carton) | 160 mg/mL | |
1 autoinjector (1 carton) | 320 mg/2 mL | |
1 prefilled syringe (1 carton) | 320 mg/2 mL |
To get a GoodRx discount:
Visit the GoodRx website or download the app.
Type “Bimzelx” in the search field, then click on “Find the lowest prices.”
Choose your prescribed dose, quantity, and form, and input your location to see prices at local pharmacies.
Choose how you’d like to receive the coupon: text, email, or printout. If you’re using the app, you can keep the coupon ready on your phone, or save it to your digital wallet.
To avoid delays, show your pharmacy’s staff the GoodRx discount before they process your prescription.
2. Apply for the manufacturer copay savings card
You may be able to pay as little as $5 per dose with the Bimzelx Navigate Savings program, if you meet the eligibility requirements.
To be eligible, you must:
Be 18 years or older
Have commercial insurance
Have a valid prescription consistent with an FDA-approved use of the medication
You’re not eligible for the copay savings program if you have Medicare or Medicaid. The same is true if you’re enrolled in any other federal- or state-funded healthcare program, including a State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program or the Government Health Insurance Plan in Puerto Rico.
Although the program expires every December 31, you can reenroll each year if you continue to meet the qualifications.
3. Look into the Bimzelx Navigate Bridge program
You can apply for the Bimzelx Navigate Bridge program if you have commercial insurance and your plan denies or delays coverage. With this program, you’ll pay $15 per dose for the medication. This offer lasts for up to 2 years or until your insurance approves coverage, whichever happens first.
To qualify, you must:
Be 18 years or older
Have commercial insurance and a valid prescription for Bimzelx
Have submitted a prior authorization request to your insurance
For you to stay enrolled in the program, your prescriber must appeal any insurance denial within 60 days. If coverage is still not approved, they’ll need to resubmit the prior authorization request or other required paperwork every 6 months.
You can’t participate in the program if your insurance already covers Bimzelx or if you pay cash for the medication and don’t use insurance. You’re also not eligible if you have Medicare, Medicaid, or benefits through any other government-funded healthcare program. This includes a State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program or the Government Health Insurance Plan in Puerto Rico.
4. See if you qualify for the UCB Patient Assistance Program
You may be able to receive Bimzelx at no cost through the UCB Patient Assistance Program if you can’t afford the medication and meet certain requirements.
To be eligible, you must:
Live in the U.S. or a U.S. territory
Be uninsured, underinsured, or have difficulty paying for your medication even with insurance coverage
Meet income guidelines
Have a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare professional
Not be enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare or any other government-funded healthcare program
Work with your prescriber to complete the application form. For more information, speak with a customer service representative at 1-844-599-CARE (1-844-599-2273).
5. Consider applying for the Patient Advocate Foundation Co-Pay Relief program
Another way to get help paying for Bimzelx is through the Patient Advocate Foundation Co-Pay Relief program. This program helps cover out-of-pocket costs for various medications and office visits.
The foundation has two funds that people taking Bimzelx can apply to for help: one for psoriatic arthritis and one for ankylosing spondylitis. At this time, neither fund is open, but program availability can change throughout the year, so check the organization’s website regularly for updates.
6. Compare prices at different pharmacies
Bimzelx is usually filled through a specialty pharmacy, though some retail locations may have it in stock. Check with your insurer to find out which specialty pharmacies are in network before filling your prescription. Using one of your plan’s preferred pharmacies can help you avoid higher out-of-pocket costs from going out of network.
You can also use the GoodRx website or app to quickly compare prices at local pharmacies that may have Bimzelx in stock. Many people can save money simply by choosing a different pharmacy.
7. Tap into your tax-advantaged health funds
A flexible spending account (FSA), health savings account (HSA), or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) can help you save on the cost of Bimzelx and other qualified healthcare expenses through tax benefits. Be sure to keep receipts and documentation in case you need to verify a purchase’s eligibility or request reimbursement.
You must use the money in your FSA by the end of the plan year or you’ll lose it, unless your employer offers a grace period or a carryover option. HSA funds, however, roll over annually and are available for future healthcare expenses.
The bottom line
A carton containing 1 autoinjector of Bimzelx (bimekizumab-bkzx) 160 mg/mL costs an average of $10796.19 without insurance or discount programs. A carton of one 320 mg/2 mL autoinjector costs $20299.81 on average. Your location, the pharmacy you choose, and other factors can affect what you actually pay.
The manufacturer’s patient assistance program may provide Bimzelx at no cost if you’re uninsured and meet income requirements. If you have commercial insurance, you may be able to pay as little as $5 per dose if you’re eligible for the manufacturer copay savings card.
You could also lower your out-of-pocket costs for Bimzelx by using a free GoodRx discount, choosing your plan’s preferred specialty pharmacy, or paying with a tax-advantaged account.

Methodology
We obtained national prescription coverage data for each medication from Managed Markets Insight & Technology (MMIT). The data reflects health insurance coverage as of September 2025.
We calculated the percentage of enrollees in plans that cover each medication by dividing the number of enrollees covered for the medication within a specific insurance channel (e.g., ACA, Medicare, Medicaid) by the total number of enrollees in all plans within that channel.
We determined the percentage of enrollees in plans with a prior authorization requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that required prior authorization for the medication within each channel.
Finally, we measured the percentage of enrollees in plans with a step therapy requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that imposed step therapy requirements for the medication in each channel.
These estimates, derived from national MMIT coverage data, provide insight into health insurance coverage for each medication. They take into account restrictions such as prior authorization, step therapy, and quantity limits. The percentages are expressed relative to the total number of enrollees covered by various insurance channels, including ACA plans, commercial (excluding ACA) plans, Medicare, and Medicaid (both state-run and managed care plans).
