Xdemvy (lotilaner) is a newer, twice-daily eye drop that's used to treat Demodex blepharitis. This is an eye condition caused by mites that live on the skin. It's important to continue using Xdemvy (lotilaner) drops for 6 weeks to see the best results. While most people don't experience side effects from Xdemvy (lotilaner), some have reported a burning or stinging sensation when they put the drops in the eyes.
Treatment of blepharitis (eye inflammation) caused by Demodex mites in adults
Xdemvy (lotilaner) helps paralyze and kill Demodex mites by acting on their nervous system. These mites are what cause Demodex blepharitis, an inflammatory eye condition that affects your skin and eyelashes.

Make sure you wash your hands carefully before handling the Xdemvy (lotilaner) bottle and administering your drops to prevent contamination (spreading germs) which could cause an eye infection.
If you develop another eye condition (e.g. pink eye or trauma to your eye) or need eye surgery, let your provider know right away because they might want you to pause your Xdemvy (lotilaner) treatment.
Xdemvy (lotilaner) contains a preservative which can discolor your soft contact lenses. Make sure to remove your lenses before administering your eye drops, and wait 15 minutes before putting them back in.
Wait 5 minutes before using any other kind of eye drops with Xdemvy (lotilaner); this will make sure your eye absorbs enough of each medication.
It's unknown whether Xdemvy (lotilaner) is safe to use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. While it's unlikely that a large amount of medication will get in your body or breastmilk, it's best to have a discussion with your provider if you're pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using this eye drop.
Xdemvy (lotilaner) can cause some serious health issues. This risk may be even higher for certain groups. If this worries you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other options.
Remember to wash your hands before using Xdemvy (lotilaner). Don't touch the tip of the Xdemvy (lotilaner) bottle onto your eye or to any surface. These steps help prevent contamination of the medication, eye infections, and eye injury.
Risk factors: Wearing soft contact lenses
The preservative in Xdemvy (lotilaner), potassium sorbate, can change the color of your soft contact lenses. To prevent this from happening, make sure to remove your lenses before administering your drops. Wait 15 minutes before putting your lenses back in.
The typical dose is one drop in each eye twice daily (12 hours apart) for 6 weeks.
