Pharmacist tips for X-PLOR

  • The X-PLOR device comes with a rechargeable battery, replaceable cartridge, air intake filter, AC and DC power adaptors, one nasal cannula, and a carry bag.

    • Before using X-PLOR, make sure you're familiar with the settings and you get instructions from your provider on which settings you should use.

      • After you turn on the X-PLOR, it'll need to warm up for about 2 minutes. During this time, you can set your oxygen flow level as instructed by your provider. Once it's done warming up, you can connect the nasal cannula tube to the device.

        • When you're finished setting up X-PLOR, place the cannula in your nostrils and make sure the unit is on. Breathe like you normally would when wearing the cannula.

          • You can download the Nomad Biometrics™ mobile app that tracks your breath rate, pulse volume, oxygen usage, battery life, and alarm history. It connects to the X-PLOR device via Bluetooth® technology. This makes it easier to share this information with your healthcare provider.

            • Always keep a spare charged battery with you in case your battery runs out and you aren't able to plug your device in. This is also helpful in case of a power outage.

              • Whenever needed, you can clean your X-PLOR device by wiping the case with a cloth dampened with a mild liquid detergent mixed with room temperature water.

                • Make sure to clean your air intake filter weekly. Doing so will help air to flow through properly. You can clean the filter with the room temperature detergent and water mixture. Then rinse the filter with room temperature water. Let it dry completely before using it again.

                  • Clean the nasal cannula (nasal tubes) regularly based on your provider's or the manufacturer's instructions. Typically, you'll need to do so weekly. This will help make sure that they're safe to use. If your nasal tubes are damaged or broken, let your provider know because you'll need to get new ones.

                    • Ask your provider how often you need to replace the X-PLOR device and its parts. Keep track of the dates on a calendar so that your portable oxygen concentrator can continue to work well.

                      Frequently asked questions about X-PLOR

                      What is X-PLOR?
X-PLOR is an oxygen concentrator. It pulls in air from around us and creates oxygen-enriched air that you breathe through your nose from a tube called a cannula or face mask. This allows your body get more oxygen, which is helpful if you have certain lung conditions that cause low oxygen levels in your body, such as asthma, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
What's the difference between a portable oxygen concentrator and a stationary oxygen concentrator?
Both portable oxygen concentrator and stationary oxygen concentrator help provide more oxygen to your body by allowing you to breathe more concentrated oxygen into your lungs. The main differences between them include their flow rates (how much oxygen flows into the nostrils per minute), size and weight, power options, and pricing. Stationary oxygen concentrators are typically larger, heavier, and harder to move around. They also usually plug into the wall, and might offer a backup oxygen cylinder in case of a power outage. If you've a more active lifestyle and go outside regularly, a portable oxygen concentrator might be a better option. However, portable oxygen concentrators tend to have a lower flow rate, so they might not be a possible option for people who need more oxygen.
What oxygen settings are possible with X-PLOR?
X-PLOR has four pulse flow oxygen settings: 215 mL/min, 425 mL/min, 635 mL/min, and 750 mL/min. Pulse flow means oxygen is delivered into your lungs each time you begin to take a breath. Additionally, X-PLOR has a continuous flow option at 750 mL/min. This means oxygen will flow while the device is on, and doesn't depend on your breathing. Your provider will work with you to find the setting that best fits your oxygen needs.
How long does the X-PLOR battery last?
When fully charged, the battery in your X-PLOR should last up to 4.5 hours. Keep in mind that the battery typically takes up to 6 hours to charge fully.
                      Can X-PLOR get wet?
While X-PLOR is water resistant, it's not fully waterproof. Always keep it in the carry bag provided or a backpack to add extra protection. Don't leave it exposed to the rain or other conditions that could cause it to get too wet, because this could damage it.
