Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) is a combination medication that is used to treat various skin infections and inflammatory conditions of the skin. It needs to be applied multiple times per day and it can be expensive.
Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) is a combination of an anti-infective medication, iodoquinol, and a corticosteroid, hydrocortisone. It's uncertain how iodoquinol works, but it's both an antifungal and antibacterial which helps to treat various types of infection. Hydrocortisone stops chemicals in the body that cause swelling, inflammation, and itching.
The following side effects may get better over time as your body gets used to the medication. Let your healthcare provider know immediately if you continue to experience these symptoms or if they worsen over time.

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
How long you use Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) will depend on the type of skin condition that's being treated. Only use Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) for the amount of time your provider says. Long-term use of this medication can cause overgrowth of other bacteria that aren't killed by Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) which can lead to other types of infections.
One component of Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol), hydrocortisone, belongs to the steroid drug class which helps to reduce inflammation, itching, and swelling of the skin. Hydrocortisone topicals alone are commonly available over-the-counter (OTC), so it's important to not use these in addition to Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol), because you may get too much corticosteroid in your system.
A burning sensation on the skin is a possible side effect of this medication. This is due to the hydrocortisone component of Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol). If your skin becomes too irritated, let your provider know. You may need to switch to a different medication.
You can use Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) on your face, however be very careful not to get any of the medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Put a thin layer of Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) over the affected area and rub it in gently. Don't use coverings like bandages or dressings over the area unless your provider tells you to.
Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) can cause some serious health issues. This risk may be even higher for certain groups. If this worries you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other options.
Make sure to keep Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) in a safe place out of the reach of children and pets. It can be very harmful if not handled or used properly.
Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) is meant for external use (on the outside of the body) only. Don't get this medication in your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If there's contact to these areas, make sure to rinse the area with water really well.
It's unknown if Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) can cause harm to an unborn baby or if it's safe to use in pregnant women. Vytone (hydrocortisone / iodoquinol) should only be used if absolutely needed and your provider has determined that the benefits are greater than the risks to you and your unborn baby.
