Save on related medications
Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) is a prescription-only medication that is FDA approved to treat migraine attacks. It belongs to a class of medications called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonists, and it’s thought to work by blocking a protein that’s involved in migraine attacks.
Ubrelvy comes as 50 mg and 100 mg tablets. Most adults take either 50 mg or 100 mg when a migraine starts. If your symptoms don’t improve after 2 hours, you can take a second dose, usually the same amount as your first. It’s important to wait at least 2 hours between doses. You shouldn’t take more than 2 doses in a 24-hour period or more than 8 in a 30-day period.
There isn’t currently a lower-cost, generic form of Ubrelvy. And 10 tablets of the brand-name medication can cost over $1,000 without insurance. But you may be able to save with a GoodRx discount, manufacturer copay savings card, or patient assistance program.
How much does Ubrelvy cost?
The manufacturer’s list price for a 30-day supply of Ubrelvy is around $1,085 (as of January 2025). But the retail price may be higher due to wholesale and pharmacy markups.
Without insurance or discounts, 10 tablets of 50 mg Ubrelvy cost an average of $1308.83. What you’ll pay for the medication can depend on the quantity, the pharmacy you choose, and other factors.

What factors affect the cost of Ubrelvy?
Several factors can affect how much you’ll pay for Ubrelvy, including:
Location: Prescription medication prices vary by location. GoodRx research shows that people who live in cities such as Denver and Atlanta usually pay less for prescription medications than people in New Orleans and Little Rock-Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Pharmacy: Prices for Ubrelvy can vary from one pharmacy to another, even within the same neighborhood.
Insurance: Most insurance plans cover Ubrelvy, with Medicaid covering the highest percentage of enrollees. But you may still be responsible for out-of-pocket costs like deductibles, copays, or coinsurance if you use insurance.
Discounts: You may be able to pay less for Ubrelvy with a manufacturer copay savings card, a patient assistance program, or a GoodRx discount.
Does insurance cover Ubrelvy?
Most Affordable Care Act (ACA, also known as Obamacare) marketplace plans cover Ubrelvy. But about 4 in 5 enrollees must try other medications first (a process called step therapy), and nearly half of ACA plans require prior authorization.
Nearly all people with commercial insurance plans have coverage for Ubrelvy. But about 4 in 5 enrollees must undergo step therapy.
Medicare covers Ubrelvy for about 3 in 4 enrollees. More than two-thirds of Medicare beneficiaries will need to meet prior authorization and step therapy requirements.
Almost everyone enrolled in Medicaid has coverage for Ubrelvy, but there’s a high likelihood that prior authorization will be needed. And many Medicaid enrollees face step therapy rules.
How to use your flexible spending account (FSA) funds: You can spend FSA dollars on Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) and other eligible medical expenses before they expire.
Wondering about side effects? Ubrelvy is well tolerated by most people, but here are some side effects to watch out for.
Ubrelvy vs. Imitrex (sumatriptan): Both Ubrelvy and Imitrex are used to treat migraines, but there are some key differences to consider.
Check your health plan’s formulary (list of covered medications) or contact your insurer to see if Ubrelvy is covered and what requirements you must meet before getting approval.

If Ubrelvy isn’t covered by your plan, you can:
Check if you qualify for financial assistance through the manufacturer’s patient assistance program. (See below for more details.)
Ask your prescriber about other medications that may be covered by your plan or have lower out-of-pocket costs.
Request a formulary exception to get Ubrelvy covered. Your prescriber may need to submit a letter of medical necessity and supporting documentation explaining why Ubrelvy is needed.
File an appeal if your insurer denies a formulary exception request.
Review and compare insurance plans during open enrollment to see which ones offer the best coverage for Ubrelvy and your other medications.
Ways to save on Ubrelvy
Ubrelvy can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars per prescription if you’re paying out of pocket. But there are ways to reduce the cost or even get the medication for free. Here are five ways to save on Ubrelvy.
1. Use a GoodRx discount
You may be able to lower the cost of your Ubrelvy prescription with a GoodRx discount. Here’s what you may pay for different quantities and doses of Ubrelvy when you use a GoodRx coupon at select pharmacies.
Brand-name Ubrelvy quantity | Dose | GoodRx price (as low as) |
|---|---|---|
2 tablets | 50 mg | |
8 tablets | 50 mg | |
10 tablets | 50 mg | |
30 tablets | 50 mg | |
2 tablets | 100 mg | |
8 tablets | 100 mg | |
10 tablets | 100 mg | |
30 tablets | 100 mg |
Here’s how to get your coupon:
Visit www.goodrx.com or download the GoodRx app.
Search for “Ubrelvy” and tap “Find the lowest prices.”
Choose your prescribed dose and quantity.
Print your coupon, or have it sent to you via text or email. If you’re using the app, you can share the coupon from your phone screen.
Show the coupon at the pharmacy when dropping off your prescription. This helps you avoid delays and ensure you get the discounted price.
2. Apply for the manufacturer copay savings card
Manufacturer copay savings cards are typically available for higher-cost, brand-name medications that don’t have a generic equivalent. For example, AbbVie offers a copay savings card for Ubrelvy to make the medication more affordable.
If you have a prescription for Ubrelvy and are enrolled in a commercial insurance plan, you may be eligible for the savings card. The Ubrelvy Complete Savings Card could reduce your out of pocket costs to as little as $0 per monthly prescription fill.
3. See if you qualify for the manufacturer’s patient assistance program
If you don’t qualify for the Ubrelvy Complete Savings Card, you may still be able to get help through the Abbvie Foundation, which provides assistance to uninsured and underinsured consumers.
To be eligible, you must:
Be uninsured or underinsured
Meet certain income requirements
Live in the U.S. or one of its territories
4. Ask for a 90-day supply
Ask your prescriber if you can get a 90-day supply of Ubrelvy. Some pharmacies may offer cash discounts for larger fills, and certain insurance plans lower copays when you get a 90-day supply instead of monthly refills. If you have a plan that covers Ubrelvy, check whether your insurer’s mail-order pharmacy offers discounts for a 90-day supply.
5. Consider using a tax-advantaged healthcare account
If you have access to a health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) you can use the funds to pay for prescription medications like Ubrelvy tax-free. These tax-advantaged accounts work differently, so it’s important to understand the rules and deadlines to make the most of your funds.
The bottom line
Without insurance or a GoodRx discount, 10 tablets of 50 mg Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) cost an average of $1308.83. But what you pay for the medication can depend on your insurance plan, your pharmacy, and quantity you need.
If you have commercial insurance, you may be eligible for the Ubrelvy Complete Savings Card, which can bring the cost down to $0 per monthly prescription fill. If you’re uninsured or underinsured and meet household income requirements, the manufacturer’s patient assistance program may offer you access to the medication at no cost.

Methodology
We obtained national prescription coverage data for each medication from Managed Markets Insight & Technology (MMIT). The data reflects health insurance coverage as of August 2025.
We calculated the percentage of enrollees in plans that cover each medication by dividing the number of enrollees covered for the medication within a specific insurance channel (e.g., ACA, Medicare, Medicaid) by the total number of enrollees in all plans within that channel.
We determined the percentage of enrollees in plans with a prior authorization requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that required prior authorization for the medication within each channel.
Finally, we measured the percentage of enrollees in plans with a step therapy requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that imposed step therapy requirements for the medication in each channel.
These estimates, derived from national MMIT coverage data, provide insight into health insurance coverage for each medication. They take into account restrictions such as prior authorization, step therapy, and quantity limits. The percentages are expressed relative to the total number of enrollees covered by various insurance channels, including ACA plans, commercial (excluding ACA) plans, Medicare, and Medicaid (both state-run and managed care plans).
