Seborrheic dermatitis, a condition marked by red, itchy, scaly skin, is not caused by allergies. It’s also not caused by poor hygiene. The exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis is unknown, but an overgrowth of a yeast called Malassezia generally plays a role.
