Cushing's syndrome occurs when there are high levels of cortisol in the body. Cushing's syndrome can be caused by Cushing's disease, intake of corticosteroid medications, adrenal gland tumor, or too much of the hormone ACTH.
Treatment for Cushing's syndrome include decreasing corticosteroid use, surgery to remove tumors, and medication. Progestin antagonists are common medications used to treat Cushing's syndrome.
