Apresazide is made up of two medications that both lower your blood pressure. Hydralazine is a vasodilator that relaxes blood vessels, causing them to open up (dilate). Hydrochlorothiazide, or HCTZ, is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that works in the kidneys to remove extra water, which lowers blood pressure and gets rid of swelling.
