Experience

Kelly Elterman, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist by the American Board of Anesthesiologyand has been practicing clinically since she finished her residency training in 2013. Along with her training, she has over 10 years experience in anesthesiology. After graduating from her obstetric anesthesia fellowship, she became an assistant professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, TX, where she worked for 2 years. 

During her time in academic medicine, she was actively involved in research and teaching, published several articles, and presented her work at many national meetings. She won awards for research in education and best original research in a resident forum from the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP). In 2014, her work was awarded third place in SOAP's annual Gertie Marx Competition.

In 2016, she moved to San Antonio, TX where she joined a large private practice group. Three years later, she became an independent contractor and joined the staff of an ambulatory surgery center, where she now practices. She has published many research articles as well as articles on KevinMD.com. Her most recent work was published in The Intima: A Journal of Narrative Medicine.

Education

Dr. Elterman completed a combined BA/MD program at Boston University and an internship in internal medicine at Boston Medical Center. After her internship, she went on to residency training in anesthesiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. After completing her residency in 2014, she stayed on at Brigham and Women's Hospital to complete a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia.
