Experience

Claire Wilcox, MD, has 20 years of experience in her field. She was an associate professor at the University of New Mexico, where she is currently a part of the adjunct faculty. She also serves as an associate professor at the Mind Research Network, a nonprofit organization located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

Dr. Wilcox is the recipient of two grants from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, along with other funding for research in alcohol use disorder treatment. She is affiliated with the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, the American Medical Women’s Association, and the National Association of Social Workers. She is the author of “Food Addiction, Obesity, and Disorders of Overeating: An Evidence-Based Assessment and Clinical Guide” and writes a blog for Psychology Today. Dr. Wilcox also wrote for NEJM Journal Watch Psychiatry, from 2017 until the publication’s closure in 2020.

Education

Dr. Wilcox received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota, after which she completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, a second residency in psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellowship in addiction psychiatry at the University of New Mexico.
