Key takeaways:

  • Symbravo (meloxicam / rizatriptan) is an oral migraine medication for adults. You take it only when you’re experiencing a migraine.

  • Most Medicaid plans cover Symbravo, though prior authorization is usually required. Coverage under commercial and Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans is much more limited. Most Medicare plans don’t cover Symbravo.

  • Without insurance, 9 tablets of Symbravo cost an average of $1376.20. But there are GoodRx discounts and copay savings cards that could help make your prescription more affordable.

Save on related medications

If you’ve been dealing with migraines, your healthcare team may recommend Symbravo. This oral medication combines meloxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and rizatriptan, a triptan, for migraine relief.

Like many brand-name medications, Symbravo can be costly — especially if you don’t have insurance. Understanding how much Symbravo costs without insurance, what affects its price, and what savings programs are available can help you avoid surprises at the pharmacy.

How much does Symbravo cost?

Without insurance or discounts, 9 tablets of Symbravo cost an average of $1376.20. Symbravo comes in one dose, with each tablet containing 20 mg of meloxicam and 10 mg of rizatriptan.

Since you only take Symbravo (1 tablet) when you have a migraine, the frequency of your attacks can affect how long 9 tablets will last. However, the current safety data for Symbravo only covers taking it for up to 7 headaches in a 30-day period. If you need to take more frequent doses, talk to your prescriber about your options.

Symbravo is a newer brand-name medication, so lower-cost generics aren’t available yet. Here are the average retail prices for common Symbravo quantities.

What factors affect the cost of Symbravo?

Several factors can affect how much you’ll pay for Symbravo, including:

  • Insurance: Coverage for Symbravo can vary across insurance plans. Coverage requirements, such as prior authorization and step therapy, and copay tiers can all impact how much you pay.

  • Quantity: The number of Symbravo tablets you need each month depends on how often you get migraines, which can affect your overall costs.

  • Discounts: If you’re eligible, you could pay less for Symbravo with a manufacturer copay savings card. GoodRx discounts could also help you save money, regardless of your insurance status.

  • Pharmacy: Where you fill your prescription can affect how much you pay for Symbravo, since prices can vary across locations.

Does insurance cover Symbravo?

Most Medicaid plans cover Symbravo. Coverage is more limited under commercial and Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans, and Symbravo isn’t commonly covered by Medicare plans.

Your plan may require you to get prior authorization before covering Symbravo. This means your prescriber may need to provide documentation showing that the medication is medically necessary for you. In some cases, you may need to try other options first, or do step therapy.

If your insurance doesn’t cover Symbravo, here are some options:

  • See if you’re eligible for a manufacturer copay savings card. If you have commercial insurance, you may qualify for reduced out-of-pocket costs.

  • Talk to your prescriber about alternatives. Your prescriber may be able to recommend another migraine medication that’s covered. For example, Treximet (sumatriptan / naproxen) is another triptan / NSAID combination pill, and it’s available as a lower-cost generic.

  • Request a formulary exception. If you and your prescriber determine that Symbravo is the best option for you, your prescriber can submit a formulary exception request to your insurance. You can file an appeal if the exception request isn’t approved.

Ways to save on Symbravo

Without insurance, Symbravo can cost over $1,300 for 9 tablets. But there are savings strategies that can help reduce how much you pay for your prescription. Here are four options to consider.

1. Use a GoodRx coupon

GoodRx coupons could help you save over 15% off the average retail price of Symbravo at certain pharmacies. Here are some examples of what you could pay for your prescription.

8 tablets

9 tablets

2. See if you qualify for a copay savings card

If you have commercial insurance, you may be able to reduce your out-of-pocket costs with a copay savings card through the Symbravo On My Side Savings Program. If you’re eligible, you could pay as little as $0 per month for your prescription.

You can sign up for a new card or activate an existing card online. Show the card to your pharmacist along with your prescription to get savings.

3. Ask about 90-day supplies

If Symbravo works well for you, ask your prescriber and insurer about a 90-day supply. Some plans discount 3-month fills, especially if you’re using a preferred or mail-order pharmacy. This can also save you time with fewer trips to the pharmacy.

4. Tap into your HSA, FSA, or HRA

If you have a health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), you can use the pre-tax funds to pay for prescription medications such as Symbravo. Just be sure to keep your receipts or other documentation of your expenses.

The bottom line

Symbravo (meloxicam / rizatriptan) is an oral migraine treatment for adults. Without insurance, 9 tablets of Symbravo cost an average of $1376.20. But GoodRx discounts or a manufacturer copay savings cards could help make your prescription more affordable.

Most Medicaid plans cover Symbravo, but prior authorization is usually required. Coverage is more limited through commercial and Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans. Most Medicare plans don’t cover Symbravo. Check with your specific plan to learn more.

Methodology

We obtained national prescription coverage data for each medication from Managed Markets Insight & Technology (MMIT). The data reflects health insurance coverage as of September 11, 2025.

We calculated the percentage of enrollees in plans that cover each medication by dividing the number of enrollees covered for the medication within a specific insurance channel (e.g., ACA, Medicare, Medicaid) by the total number of enrollees in all plans within that channel.

We determined the percentage of enrollees in plans with a prior authorization requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that required prior authorization for the medication within each channel.

Finally, we measured the percentage of enrollees in plans with a step therapy requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that imposed step therapy requirements for the medication in each channel.

These estimates, derived from national MMIT coverage data, provide insight into health insurance coverage for each medication. They take into account restrictions such as prior authorization, step therapy, and quantity limits. The percentages are expressed relative to the total number of enrollees covered by various insurance channels, including ACA plans, commercial (excluding ACA) plans, Medicare, and Medicaid (both state-run and managed care plans).
