Walmart’s New Policies on Opioids

As of June 1st, 2018, Walmart will no longer accept any discounts for an opioid prescription. If you don’t have insurance or choose not to use your insurance, you will pay the full retail price for a prescription.

Walmart is also enforcing new prescription policies on opioid medications as part of a larger initiative to combat opioid abuse in the United States. In an official statement, Walmart explains two new policies that will affect those trying to fill a prescription opioid. First, Walmart will now limit initial acute opioid prescriptions to a maximum of seven days. Second, starting in 2020, Walmart will also require that all prescriptions for controlled substances be submitted electronically.
