Aldosteronism

Comprehensive information for you or a loved one — including treatment options and discounts on popular medications.

Aldosteronism is the overproduction of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal glands. This causes the body to lose potassium and retain sodium, which in turn causes an increase in blood volume and blood pressure. Signs of aldosteronism include high blood pressure and low potassium levels.

Treatment for aldosteronism includes surgery to remove the adrenal gland and medication. Aldactone (spironolactone) is an aldosterone antagonist commonly used to treat reduce aldosterone levels.
