Esophageal Cancer

Esophageal Cancer is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the esophagus. Smoking, drinking, certain diets, infections, and genetic factors can increase your chance of developing esophageal cancer. Symptoms include difficulty swallowing, chest pain, coughing, hoarseness, unexpected weight loss, and worsening indigestion or heartburn.

Treatment for esophageal cancer includes surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy. Common drug classes used to treat esophageal cancer are nucleoside metabolic inhibitors, PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors, kinase inhibitors, and CTLA-4 antagonists.
