Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder or the nervous system. It causes tumors to form on nerve tissues. It can appear during childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood. Type 1 can cause bone deformities, learning disabilities, and high blood pressure. Type 2 can cause hearing loss, vision loss, and difficulty with balancing. Type 4 can cause chronic pain.
Treatments for neurofibromatosis include chemotherapy or surgery. Newly approved drug Koselugo can be used to treat pediatric patients with plexiform neurofibromas (a benifn tumor) caused by NF.
