“To find health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease.” - Dr. A.T. Still, founder of Osteopathic Medicine
Although these words by Dr. Still are over 100 years old, they are still relevant today. They encourage us to look beyond the obvious, to dig a little deeper, and to work a little harder in order to bring out the health in each individual. As physicians and educators, our task lies in providing patients with the knowledge they need, in an accessible and understandable format, so that each person is empowered to find their health, and maintain it.
— Inga Johannesson, DO
Dr. Johannesson is a licensed, board-certified internal medicine physician with more than 20 years of clinical experience. She started her medical career combining hospital and critical care medicine with outpatient-based clinical practice and nursing home care. Later on, she transitioned to an outpatient practice, which allowed her to focus more intently on two of her main interests: preventive medicine and patient education. In this setting, she also decided to pursue her passion for teaching by serving as a faculty member at Tufts University School of Medicine, teaching third- and fourth-year medical students on their clinical rotations.
Outside of direct patient care, Dr. Johannesson has also served as the medical director of an urgent care center. She was part of the planning and organization of the facility before opening, and worked on the implementation of workflows and supervision of mid-level practitioners and staff while it was up and running.
She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI).
Dr. Johannesson completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California San Diego, earning a bachelor of science degree in bioengineering with a minor in French literature. She received her osteopathic medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and did her residency training at the Frankford/Torresdale/Bucks hospitals, part of the Thomas Jefferson Health System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
