A review of studies found that people with COVID illness were twice as likely to develop shingles compared to people who did not get sick with COVID.
Another study found that people were more likely to develop shingles if they'd been sick with COVID within the last year. This study also found that people were more likely to develop complications from shingles if they'd recently had a COVID illness.
Another very large study found that people older than 50 years were 15% more likely to develop shingles if they had COVID illness when compared with people of the same age who didn’t get COVID.
