Sarah Gupta, MD, is a licensed physician with a special interest in mental health, sex and gender, eating disorders, and the human microbiome. She is currently board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Since completing her residency in San Francisco, she has worked clinically with individuals, groups, and couples, providing both psychotherapy and medication management. Gupta has been in the tech industry since 2016, both as a telepsychiatrist and as a biotech consultant. She also spent several years as the director of medical affairs for a global microbiome company.
Over the past decade, she has been an active participant in events and conferences worldwide. She has been a featured speaker at the Institute for the Future, South by Southwest, Food Funded, J.P. Morgan Health Care Conference, Cycles + Sex, Parsley Health, and Xconomy What’s Hot in Biotech and more. She was delighted to join in multiple World Economic Forum engagements in both New York and Davos as a 2018 Technology Pioneer.
She has also served as a medical expert for a variety of media outlets, including Well + Good, TechCrunch, UK News Channel Five, The Washington Post, and The Chicago Tribune.
In her free time, Gupta volunteers at Xenophon Therapeutic Riding Center. She also enjoys keeping up with the latest developments in biological psychiatry, including the growing field of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
Gupta was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in art practice cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley. During her undergraduate years, she studied political science and the arts at the Universite Lumiere Lyon 2 in France. She was also selected as an Honors Studio Recipient and received the Mask & Dagger Award for dramatic excellence.
After graduating from UC Berkeley, Gupta completed the Pre-Professional Health Academic Program at California State University, East Bay, and went on to get her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She then completed her psychiatry residency at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, where she served as chief resident. During residency, Gupta participated in the experiential Leadership Conference at Tarrytown and was selected as a speaker for the World Congress of Psychiatry in Madrid.
