Experience

Brooke A. Lewis is an award-winning journalist who has written on topics including health, race, and history. 

Brooke worked at the Houston Chronicle as a reporter for 5 years. While there, she was part of the Pulitzer-finalist team for breaking news coverage of Hurricane Harvey. She also wrote extensively about the discovery of the remains of 95 African Americans in Sugar Land, Texas, which received national media attention and renewed interest in the history of convict leasing. 

Brooke is the co-founder of BIPOC Book Fest, a 2-day festival that debuted in Houston in April 2022. It celebrates literary works by Black and Indigenous writers and authors of color.
She is also currently teaching through Writers in the Schools, a nonprofit that pairs creative writers with teachers to instruct students across the Houston area. During summer 2021, she taught a journalism course to graduate students at Syracuse University. 

Education

Brooke has a master’s degree in magazine, newspaper, and online journalism from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. She also has an English writing and rhetoric degree from St. Edward's University.
