Certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
Specializes in training clients with complex health problems
Founder of Intersect Fitness in Charlotte, North Carolina
I know that working out with chronic health issues can be frustrating and isolating. I want to help my clients not only improve their health and feel better, but also feel seen and validated in their unique health journeys.
— Mariah Metzger, CSCS
Mariah Metzger, CSCS, grew up in a gym with her parents, who were professional bodybuilders. Although she’s always loved fitness, in college she began to experience severe joint pain and other debilitating symptoms, due to a rare genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Years of being unable to exercise meant she had to start with the basics and “get in shape” all over again. This experience gave her the passion to help others on their fitness journey — no matter where they start.
Today, Mariah continues to train special population clients and has thousands of hours of training experience. She holds multiple certifications: National Strength and Conditioning Association certified strength and conditioning specialist, Precision Nutrition level 1, Girls Gone Strong level 1, American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer. And she has been published on Bustle.
Mariah is also the founder of Intersect Fitness, a personal training facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, dedicated to helping independent personal trainers thrive in their profession.
Mariah holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and coaching and received her personal training certification from the American Council on Exercise in 2017. In 2018, she became a certified nutrition coach through Precision Nutrition and obtained a Girls Gone Strong level 1 women’s fitness certification. In 2020, Mariah became a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, widely viewed as one of the most prestigious and difficult certifications in the fitness industry. Mariah is currently pursuing a master’s in sports science and rehabilitation from Logan University and hopes to contribute to the field of exercise science as it relates to chronic illnesses.
