Dean Shaban is a writer, editor, professor, and photographer based in Washington, D.C. After a year at WebMD, Dean joined GoodRx as a Health Editor in January 2024. He has a combined 7 years of experience in editorial and teaching.
Dean got his start in children’s publishing in 2015, where he played a seminal role in winning a Nautilus Prize for The Barefoot Book of Children. From there, he went on to teach English literature and language at several universities in the Southeast, focusing on the works of Nobel Prize laureates. He has also worked in mental health at Emory University and the University of Wisconsin.
Outside of GoodRx and WebMD, Dean is a prolific poet and children’s author. In 2015, he founded the Spontaneous Generation Reading Series. He has two major collections of poetry and eight children’s books. His work has been published by So to Speak, Underground, Barefoot Books, Zero Publishing, and Zoozil.
Born into a South African lineage, Dean Shaban is the first American in his family and the first to obtain a college degree. In 2011, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Princeton University, where he focused on psychiatric illnesses and their social impact. Dean holds a Master in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College (2017).
