I've seen firsthand the uncertainty a new cancer diagnosis can bring to someone's life. Helping a patient fully understand their treatment regimen and the (many) supportive medications that come with it is a critical piece of the puzzle that can bring renewed hope and peace of mind.
— Allison Baxley, PharmD, BCOP
Allison is a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist with more than 12 years of clinical experience in oncology. After completing her residency, she accepted a position at the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center and she has remained there ever since. Her clinical focus is gastrointestinal and thoracic cancers and patient education. Stephenson is the only NCI-designated cancer center in Oklahoma and home to the state's only phase I clinical trial program. Allison can often be heard repeating her motto when describing the importance of clinical trials in oncology: “If we're not curing every cancer, we're not done researching it.” She still works at Stephenson as the Administrative Director of Oncology and Ambulatory Pharmacy Services.
Allison is a member of the Hematology Oncology Pharmacists Association (HOPA) and authored the Gastrointestinal Cancers chapter of HOPA's inaugural BCOP Preparation and Recertification Course. She serves as a peer-reviewer for multiple journals including Journal of Hematology Oncology Pharmacy, American Journal of Health System Pharmacy, and US Pharmacist.
Additionally, Allison is adjunct professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy where she assists in didactic and experiential learning experiences in oncology for pharmacy students. Allison loves teaching about oncology, particularly how medications to treat cancer work. She firmly believes in helping people “understand the why” and that knowledge is power.
Allison began her education at Oklahoma State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in nutritional sciences and a minor in art history. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy, then moved on to pursue a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. She then returned to the University of Oklahoma for her PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy residency, where she also served as chief resident.
