Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. To do so may increase the chance for side effects.

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, break, or chew it. You may take this medicine with or without food.

Serious Side Effects

  • Tissue swelling

    Vesicare (solifenacin) may cause an uncommon, but serious side effect called angioedema. This condition causes swelling in the tissues of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Go to the emergency room right away if you have difficulty breating or notice swelling around your face.

  • Drowsiness
      Higher risk if:
    • Taking with alcohol
    • Taking other medicines that make you less alert
    • People age 65 or older

    Vesicare (solifenacin) can make you less alert when you first take it. Avoid doing things that require focus, such as driving a car. Drinking alcohol or taking medicines that make you sleepy can make it worse.

  • Vision changes
      Higher risk if:
    • Glaucoma

    Vesicare (solifenacin) may cause blurred vision or worsen glaucoma. If you have glaucoma, talk to your doctor before using Vesicare (solifenacin).

  • Urinary blockage
      Higher risk if:
    • Bladder outflow obstruction

    If you have difficulty urinating, Vesicare (solifenacin) can make it worse especially if there is a blockage in your bladder. Talk to your doctor before starting Vesicare (solifenacin).

  • Worsening side effects
      Higher risk if:
    • History of kidney problems
    • People age 65 or older

    High doses of this medicine can cause you to have trouble urinating, constipation, and dizziness.

  • Temperature dysregulation
      Higher risk if:
    • Outside in hot weather
    • Dehydrated
    • Exercising
    • Added people 65 and older per Beer's Criteria
    • People age 65 and older

    Vesicare (solifenacin) can make you sweat less and affect how your body cools down. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids during exercise or hot weather.

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

  • For oral dosage form (tablets):
    • To treat bladder problems:
      • Adults—At first, 5 milligrams (mg) as a single dose once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose if needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 10 mg per day.
      • Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
Missed dose

If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
