Toprol XL (metoprolol ER) is used to treat high blood pressure and prevent chest pain. Toprol XL is a Beta Blocker, which works by blocking certain receptors to reduce heart rate, dilating blood vessels for better blood flow, and reducing excess eye fluid to decrease eye pressure. The most common form of Toprol XL is a 50mg tablet. It's also available in 25mg, 100mg, and 200mg tablets. It is available in both generic and brand versions. It is covered by some Medicare and insurance plans, but some pharmacy coupons or cash prices may be lower."
