Experience

Karla Robinson, MD, is a medical editor for GoodRx. She is a licensed, board-certified family physician with almost 20 years of experience in health through varied clinical, administrative, and educational roles. She has served in primary care through traditional private practice, concierge medicine, and in community medicine as a medical director at a federally qualified health center (FQHC). She has also worked in the pharmaceutical industry as an associate medical director in pharmacovigilance and patient safety. She continues to serve clinically through telemedicine, providing access to reproductive health services. 

She is also committed to preparing the next generation of healthcare providers and teaches classes to physician associate students in clinical laboratory medicine and medical wellness.

Dr. Robinson is a fellow at the American Academy of Family Physicians due to distinguishing herself through her service to family medicine and her professional development through medical education. She has also dedicated herself to decreasing the health literacy gap, especially among the medically underserved. As part of this commitment, she founded Urban Housecall Health Media Group as a resource for the community. 

Dr. Robinson has served as a regular health contributor to local and nationally televised news programs, online and national publications, various blogs, and news outlets. She was also the co-host and producer of the Urban Housecall Radio Show, a weekly radio broadcast featuring celebrity interviews, information on the health issues most pressing in the urban community, and practical ways to make the best health and lifestyle choices. She was co-author of the book “In Sickness & In Health” and enjoys lecturing and encouraging others to become active participants in their healthcare. Her areas of interest include the social determinants of health, mental health, lifestyle medicine, preventive medicine,and women’s health. 

Education

Dr. Robinson completed her undergraduate studies at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. 

A native of Chicago, she returned home to earn her medical degree from Rush Medical College. While in medical school, Dr. Robinson earned the coveted Erich E. Brueschke, M.D. Award in Family Medicine for excellence in service and commitment to the field. She went on to complete her residency training at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. During her training, she helped to run an adolescent health school-based health center at Lakeview High School

She is currently licensed to practice medicine in 26 states and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She is also an instructor for the American Heart Association, where she is certified to teach CPR, first aid, and basic life support (BLS).
