captopril (Capoten)

ACE Inhibitors

Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used in the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and diabetic kidney disease. An ACE inhibitor given 24 hours after a heart attack improves outcome. It is also available as brand name Capoten, and in combination with the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide (as captopril/hctz). ARBs (Diovan, losartan) are a similar class of blood pressure medications.
