Short-Acting Beta Agonists

Albuterol is a beta agonist used to treat asthma by relaxing muscles in the airway and allowing greater airflow. It can help prevent and treat symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, and wheezing. Generic albuterol is given using a nebulizer, and is available as brand name Accuneb. Brand-name-only albuterol inhalers are also available, and include Proair HFA, Ventolin HFA, and Proventil HFA.
