Abiraterone Side Effects

What should I watch for?

Tell your doctor or healthcare professional if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.

If you are a woman, do not get pregnant while taking this medicine. If you do get pregnant, tell your doctor right away. There is a potential for serious side effects to an unborn child. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not touch this medicine without wearing gloves. Men taking this medicine must use a condom when having sex with a pregnant woman during and for one week after treatment with this medicine. Men who have sex with a woman who may get pregnant must use a condom and another form of birth control during and for one week after treatment with this medicine.


Interactions with Medications

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Bladder pain

bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet

bloody or cloudy urine

blurred vision

bone fracture

chest pain or discomfort


decreased urine

difficult, burning, or painful urination


dry mouth


fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse

feeling of warmth

frequent urge to urinate


increased need to urinate

increased thirst

increased urge to urinate during the night

lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting

loss of appetite

lower back or side pain

mood changes

muscle pain or cramps

nausea or vomiting


numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips

pain or swelling in the arms or legs without any injury

passing urine more often

pounding in the ears

rapid weight gain

redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest

shortness of breath

slow heartbeat

sudden sweating


swelling with pits or depressions on the skin

unusual tiredness or weakness

unusual weight gain or loss

waking to urinate at night

arm, back, or jaw pain

clay colored stools

cool, sweaty skin

dark urine

decreased appetite

difficulty with breathing

extreme fatigue

swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs


weight gain


yellow eyes or skin

mental depression
